ALL RISE is a community-based performance project that explores themes of race & immigration. ALL RISE will take place throughout the month of March. Events include:
>> The Black Lunch Table roundtables where community discussions take place over lunch or dinner.
>> AND AND AND Stammering: An Interview performances where audience members get to rehearse what it might be like to go through a process of obtaining citizenship to the U.S. One-hour performances are followed by roundtable discussions which also include lunch or dinner.
>> Wikipedia edit-a-thons where we will create new entries around the important topics that we discuss during our conversations.
All events are FREE and open to the public! We welcome all students & faculty & community members. RSVPs are required.

ALL RISE is an Institute for Arts & Humanities Arts & Social Justice Project that combines strategies from two ongoing collaborative projects, And And And Stammering: An Interview and The Black Lunch Table. Our performance series addresses issues of immigration and institutional racism in our communities and ultimately aims to create a space for public art and critical dialogue on UNC campus.
Assoc. Prof. of Art Hồng-Ân Trương and Chicago-based artist Hương Ngô's work And And And Stammering: An Interview stages an interrogation as a performance of citizenship. It engages a participant from the audience to rehearse the process of becoming a U.S. citizen through a live interview, and allows audience members to imagine themselves in positions of precarious citizenship.
The Black Lunch Table is an ongoing collaboration between Asst. Prof. of Art Jina Valentine and New York-based artist, Heather Hart. BLT is an oral-history archiving project, the primary aim of which is the production of discursive sites, wherein cultural producers engage in dialogue on a variety of critical issues. Organized around literal and metaphorical lunch tables, BLT takes the lunchroom phenomenon as its starting point, and brings together a diversity of community members to foster candid conversations.
#blacklivesmatter themed discussions take place on Thursday March 9th 12-1:30pm AND March 25th 5-6:30pm. Lunch / dinner will be provided.
AND AND AND Stammering: An Interview performances take place on Thursday, March 23rd 6-8pm and Friday, March 24th from 12-2pm. Meals will be served after the performance with BLT-led conversations.
All performances & roundtables will take place on the UNC Campus Y courtyard (180 E Cameron Ave). Lunch will be provided for day-time events; dinner will be provided at evening events! Wikipedia edit-a-thons will be held at the Sloane Art Library at Hanes Art Building.
