Pop-Up Studio

New York, Brooklyn, Queens.

What is the role of the artist within an urban environment where so much of one's life is displayed to the public, but one's psyche is more and more guarded, retreating from a constant onslaught of stimulation? How does one work in a city where affordable space becomes increasing scarce? How best can I connect the immediate experience of living among strangers with the intimate experience of a collaborative work environment?

The Pop-Up Studio is a mobile, working, studio space. I share this 8'x8'x8' cube with one other artist at a time, and we set up and work in public spaces. It is an ongoing project, and I will go on tour with the studio this summer.
